Career and Professional Development

Love your job. Embrace your career.
Build a massive and meaningful network.

I’ve been talking about career development since my time at WomenVenture more than 10 years ago. But I’ve been obsessed with careers for much longer than that. While other little girls played “house,” I played “office.” I love sharing my knowledge on career development and networking, especially with women. Some of my favorite topics include:

You Know Everybody! Building a Network That Works
When do you know you have a network that works? When you can walk in a room and someone says, “You know everybody!” In this session, I teach participants to build expansive networks through traditional and non-traditional networking, creating stronger job opportunities, increased productivity at work, and exciting opportunities to advance with the help of a network that works for you. To get to “You Know Everybody!” you first need to know:

  • Your pitch
  • Your wish list
  • Who you need on your side
  • How to get your foot in the door

Brand You: Building Your Personal Brand to Enhance Your Career
We interact daily with strong brands, both personal and professional. But still, personal branding is a buzz word many speak, but few understand. This fun and interactive workshop will explore the success of worldwide brands and guide participants through the process of identifying and creating a personal brand that represents them, and tells the story of their skills in compelling and instantly recognizable way. Participants will walk away with:

  • Their own personal brand identity
  • Individualized branding statement created during the workshop
  • A clear “elevator speech” describing each personal brand and skill set
  • Examples of brand packages, including a complete resume and personal marketing plan

You on Paper: Crafting the Perfect Cover Letter and Resume
No matter how good your references are or who you know, you cannot land the perfect job without looking good on paper. Your resume and cover letter are your first impression to HR professionals and hiring managers. Before you’re able to shake their hands and show them your smiling face, they are looking only at what you can put on paper. This dynamic workshop will lead you through:

  • My “foolproof” cover letter
  • Tips on tailoring your resume and cover letter to fit the job you’re applying
  • Captain of the softball team – and other things to leave off the resume
  • Turning any experience into marketable resume points

Wanted: Interview Skills and Negotiation Tactics to Drive a Competitive Offer
Everyone wants to be wanted! To get a potential employer to excited about you, you’re going to have to nail the interview. But that’s not the end of the road. Then, you have to take care of yourself and learn to negotiate flawlessly to achieve your career and financial goals. In this session, I’ll lead you though:

  • Prepare for an intense interview process
  • Setting up salary expectations early and often
  • Positioning your current opportunity with past opportunities and salaries
  • Negotiating and signing the deal

Building Teams Through Strengths-Based Leadership and StrengthsFinder 2.0
StrengthsFinder 2.0 is one of the most well-respected assessments in career development today. Using the StrengthsFinder 2.0 assessment, I’ll work directly with your team to complete the tests, and interpret them to help your team become stronger, more trusting of one another, and increasingly collaborative. After your team completes the test, this workshop will help your team to:

  • Learn how to best utilize their own strengths to become more effective at work
  • Access tips and techniques for working with other strengths profiles to increase teamwork and collaboration
  • Building teams through key strength profiles
